May 12, 2017; Deer Park, IL – The Independent Cosmetic Manufacturers and Distributors (ICMAD) association and Professional Beauty Association (PBA) today announced their joint support for H.R. 575, The Safe Cosmetics Modernization Act. The bill, a similar version of previous legislation, was reintroduced by Congressman Pete Sessions (R-TX), Chairman of the House Committee on Rules, in January.
The two organizations–combined represent thousands of companies–cited enhanced consumer protection for cosmetics through stronger procedures and reporting requirements as a key reason for their support. They stressed that these more robust protocols would still ensure small and established cosmetic enterprises the ability to continue to grow in the United States.
