Mission:
To effectively, efficiently, and expertly educate and prepare WMS members to better respond to, manage, and recover from disasters and humanitarian crises in order to minimize loss of life, health, property, and community and to protect the sanctity of the wilderness and the environment.
Objectives:
- To engage WMS members to participate in the governance of an active Disaster and Humanitarian community, which includes planning of educational opportunities, volunteering for disaster and humanitarian organizations, and facilitating communication/collaboration with other WMS committees.
- To engage and collaborate with various WMS Committees to develop and offer high quality CME programs.
- To provide support at all WMS conferences/programs with recruitment of commercial vendors of Disaster and Humanitarian Organizations and to provide pertinent educational displays.
- To recruit high quality speakers and posters to provide a balanced approach to the issues of Disaster and Humanitarian Response.
- To obtain financial support to make the Disaster and Humanitarian a self-sufficient and self-sustaining financial entity.
- To engage various university and professional Disaster and Humanitarian departments by both encouraging their interests in WMS and encouraging attendance at WMS conferences.
Goals:
- To connect WMS members with Disaster and Humanitarian Organizations and opportunities.
- To reach out to national and international Disaster and Humanitarian organizations to develop sustaining partnerships and sponsorships.
- To encourage the publication of high quality research, program planning, and program implementation that focuses on Disaster and Humanitarian issues.
- To develop quality Disaster and Humanitarian training scenarios, workshops, conferences, and programs.
- To recruit more students, residents, and early career professionals to pursue a career in WMS, Disaster/Humanitarian issues.
- To incorporate Disaster and Humanitarian training into DiMM and DDMM and to continue adding high quality educational offerings for FAWM and MFAWM candidates.
